Wanderlust – Destination weddings

We’ve been working non stop the last few weeks to edit all the amazing weddings we have been filming, but felt is was time just to re-cap on the places we have been and the miles we have covered in the last few months. We’ve been so lucky to have travelled to some beautiful places and have fell in love all over again with the job we get to do on a daily basis. Here’s a quick whistle stop tour of our travels to Denmark, Sweden, Devon, The Lake District, Naples, Capri, Venice, Seychelles and Seville…Phew!

Madel and Derick – Fregate Island, Seychelles

Well, where to start! We got an email from Madel asking if we (myself and great friend/wedding sidekick Beccy Goddard) were available to film and photograph their wedding…in the Seychelles. Once we’d picked ourselves up off the floor, googled Fregate Island, pinched ourselves a few times we of course said YES!  Then followed a few months of emails and finding out more about Madel and Derick and the plans they had for their dream wedding on Fregate Island, and the kind of wedding video they wanted. Madel and Derick are from South Africa and are incredibly well travelled, but I think it has to be said that Fregate was something special. It’s a tiny private island in the Indian Ocean with almost unbelievable beaches; there are no cars, just golf buggies. Dotted around the island are the beautiful villas where guests stay, complete with their own butler and private pool. But the thing that made this place so special was the unique and incredible wildlife that lives with you during your stay. The place is full of bats, tortoises, centipedes, birds, flowers and the most magical sight of turtles coming to lay their eggs in the sand on the beaches….which happened just before the ceremony took place…pretty mind blowing! A special mention  must also go to the staff who work there on the island looking after everyone, they are simply outstanding and made the week so very memorable for everyone.

Derick and Madel were joined by their close family and friends, who made the week so special for them. It was full of laughter, love and happiness, with some great adventures and sunsets. Madel’s good friend Riana helped plan the week and did a fantastic job styling the beach wedding. Derick and Madel welcomed Beccy and I into their lives for a week and we had the most amazing experience with them all, we wish you both all the luck and love for your future together and thank you so much for letting us be a part of your adventure. xx

An incredible journey…

This is just a little post to help me digest and reflect on the incredible month we had in October which involved 16 plane flights, 3 islands, 3 weddings, a (much needed) family holiday and the making and meeting of some incredible new friends and people. It really has been a most exhausting but exhilarating time, and reason once again to just pinch myself that I have been so lucky to be able to do all this in the name of work :)

We started (we for half the month was myself and Beccy) off in the beautiful Tuscan Hills for a wedding at Castello Vicarello, which has views and food to die for. There we spent the day with a couple from Hong Kong (I’m blogging their clip shortly) who had chosen Tuscany to get married…and I can see why, it was so elegant and pretty. We were lucky to work with the lovely Eva from Chic weddings who’s eye for detail is perfect, she certainly knows how to make things look pretty!  We then had a couple of days to explore Florence and Pisa in a whistle stop Tuscan tour.

Five days later we arrived in Sardinia at one of the most incredible, romantic venues I’ve filmed; Capo Spartivento. Amazing weather, amazing views, amazing couple and D&G’s ex personal chef cooking our tea!…and another love affair started with a new city, Cagliari, with it’s old town, tiny alleys, rusty iron balconies and faded paint. (oh, and pretty good food too :)) I’m planning  a return visit as there is so much to see on the island and we only touched the surface.

A family holiday in Cyprus was next (filming weddings means holidays are tricky and tend to be at odd times of the year…this was such a wonderful week of relaxing, spending time with my children, teaching them to swim, eating huge Prawns and not having any email!) The place we stayed was magical with the most perfect view of the sea and sunsets….and best of all, you could hear the waves as you lay in bed at night…dreamy.

The final trip was the most epic…and mind blowing…Beccy and myself were lucky enough to go to Fregate in the Seychelles for a week to film and photograph a wedding and celebrations for a lovely couple from South Africa. I’ve travelled to a few exotic places but Fregate was something else…for a start it’s a private island, there are no cars (just your own golf buggy!) and the whole place just happens to be a nature reserve, so is bursting to the seams with rare insects, giant Banyan Trees, exotic fish and endangered turtles (who come ashore to lay their eggs…which we witnessed at sunset…on a deserted beach…with tears in our eyes!) The place is magical and definitely puts a spell on you, I think it will draw me back forever and I hope to return one day soon to take it all in again.

I’ll be posting all the clips for these weddings soon, but before that here are a few iphone snaps taken on our journeys last month(apart from the turtle, which was taken by Beccy!)…it’s been quite a ride this year and we’ve travelled a long way on so many levels. Life is good, and love has been behind it which makes it all so much more special.
